DOWAGIAC — Two hours. Nine plays. 100% local.

The Beckwith Theatre Company presents its Local Playwright Festival, a showcase of 10-minute plays written, directed and performed by regional artists.

The festival is scheduled to run Feb. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 8 at 2 p.m., according to a press release.

The event will feature nine original works, ranging from drama to comedy, presented in a fast-paced format with minimal scenery to allow for quick transitions between pieces.

A celebration of local talent

"This festival is a celebration of the incredible talent we have right here in our community," Beckwith Theatre Board of Directors President Jennifer Shoemaker said.

The lineup includes works from local playwrights Larry Nielsen, Linda LaRocque, Kristen Robinson, Dennis W. Feece, Michael E. Cafferky and Thelma Phillips, with one playwright choosing to remain anonymous. The plays explore themes such as wartime memories, lifelong friendship, love and choices, aging and memory, and the unexpected humor found in everyday moments.

"From the playwrights who crafted these stories to the directors and actors who bring them to the stage, every element of this production is homegrown. It's a testament to the vitality of regional theatre," festival founder Larry Nielsen said.

The Beckwith Theatre Company is located at 100 New York Ave. in Dowagiac.

An energetic theatrical experience

Each play uses minimal scenery to create an energetic theatrical experience that keeps audiences engaged from start to finish. The festival promises an evening of memorable storytelling, whether audiences are moved by the poignant farewell in "Til the Geese Fly North," laugh at the absurdity of "Under the Seats" or reflect on the touching encounters in "Seeking Shelter."

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at beckwiththeatre.com/box-office .
