Rock legend ‘doesn’t want to tour’ anymore, bandmate says
It doesn't seem like Aerosmith will reunite for a farewell tour any time soon.
Founding guitarist Joe Perry recently told WBUR that the possibility of Aerosmith restarting the band's "Peace Out" tour was slim due to the health of lead singer Steven Tyler.
"I would bet that there's an Aerosmith show left," Perry told the outlet. "There's been talk about doing a documentary, that might be part of it. I've been spending a lot of time with Steven and he just doesn't want to tour and he can't tour."
"It's tough," Perry continued. "I'm not sure I would want to go out and book another 40-city tour. It's a long way to the top and staying there takes it out of you, especially an Aerosmith tour."
Aerosmith canceled its "Peace Out" farewell tour in August 2024 as a result of Tyler's vocal cord injury. The 77-year-old singer fractured his larynx while performing in Elmont, New York on Sept. 9, 2023, Billboard reported . The incident forced Aerosmith and Tyler to announce their retirement from touring as well.
Earlier this year , Tyler played his first show since band's retirement announcement. The singer performed during Aerosmith's "Jam for Janie" event on Feb. 2, during which Tyler joined Aerosmith for a six-song set.
Aerosmith's bassist Tom Hamilton told WBUR in January that the band could have one-off appearances down the line.
"Steven's healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace," Hamilton told the station. "Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it's a big if and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction.
"If we do anything in the future, it would come from him," he added.
