Rock legend wrote song about late pop icon for first new album in 14 years
The world can expect to hear true stories from Stevie Nicks' life when the legendary rockstar releases her first new album in more than a decade.
Nicks said she is working on a new record during a speech at her induction into the Pollstar Hall Of Fame on April 16.
During her speech, the 76-year-old said her forthcoming album will be her most autobiographical yet.
"I have seven songs, and they are autobiographical, real stories where I'm not pulling any punches for probably the first time in my life," Nicks said in her speech. "They are not airy-fairy songs that you are wondering who they're about but you don't really get it. They're real stories of memories of mine, of fantastic men."
The Grammy-winning musician even wrote a song about late pop icon Prince after meeting him at the premiere of the 1984 film "Purple Rain." Nicks said she met Prince after the film and offered him a 24-karat gold necklace as a gift, which he refused.
"You always bring me a gift, you never bring me you," Nicks recalled Prince saying to her.
"This is in the song. This is where this record began," Nicks told the crowd.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee called the upcoming project "the ghost record" due to its impromptu nature.
"It just really kind of happened in the last couple of weeks because of, you know, the fires," Nicks said while referring to the Los Angeles wildfires.
"I was sitting in a hotel for 92 days, and at some point during that last part of the 92 days, I said, 'You know what? I feel like I'm on the road, but there's no shows,'" she said. "I'm just sitting here by myself because everybody else is at the house, doing all the remediations and everything, and it's just me, sitting here. And I thought, 'You need to go back to work.' And I did."
The album will be Nicks' first original solo album in 14 years. Her last original project, "In Your Dreams," came out in 2011. Nicks has since release remastered versions of past albums as well as a cover project in 2014. She released her last single, "The Lighthouse," in 2024.
A name and release date for the new album have not yet been revealed.
Nicks will embark on a solo tour this summer, which will include three dates with Billy Joel. She has a show scheduled at TD Garden in Boston on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
