  • Ghost lashes are a new makeup trend involving natural lashes with a bit of definition, achieved by using clear mascara, lighter colors, or a lash curler.

Minimal makeup is the name of the game these days, so when a new trend comes around that involves less cakey foundation and fewer mascara clumps , we’re all ears. There’s been the beloved no-makeup makeup look , which is simply just lighter makeup that looks au naturel, the dewy skin look and now ghost lashes.

Learn more about this new makeup trend and find out how Pamela Anderson, 58, was involved in popularizing them.

What are ghost lashes?

Ghost lashes are exactly what they seem, and no, it’s not a fun new Halloween trend (although the look can be used whenever you want). Ghost lashes are your natural lashes but with a bit of definition. Often when we apply mascara, it can get clumpy and or appear too dark, especially if you apply multiple layers.

Ghost lashes are created when you apply a clear mascara, a lighter color or simply just use a lash curler to make them appear more natural but still give them that length and definition you desire. Another option for this look is to apply a tubing mascara, which will add the color without creating the clumpiness.

While there is no exact formula or routine to follow to achieve the ghost lashes look, often the look is created by doing nothing to your lashes at all. NYC-based makeup artist, Suzy Gerstein, shares her tips on how to achieve the ultimate look.

Sometimes leaving off mascara or using a brown mascara is just the thing to keep a makeup look balanced,” Gerstein said. “When your eye doesn’t register the lashes, it allows the softer and more nuanced elements of a makeup look to come into play without overpowering.”

The barely-there lashes leave room for the rest of your look to shine, whether that be your pristine makeup or your favorite outfit.
