Arts Illiana's "Crow Show 2024" opens Jan. 26

Jan. 19—Arts Illiana has announced the opening of "Crow Show 2024," which will be Jan. 26.

The public is invited to the opening reception at Arts Illiana Gallery — 23 N. Sixth St. in downtown Terre Haute — from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. that evening.

From 6 to 7 p.m. there will be "Total Eclipse of the Haute" posters for sale. Micheal Moore, the designer of the winning entry, will be in attendance to sign posters and chat.

The Crow Show, a popular biennial exhibition, celebrates the intriguing crow through a wide range of mediums and styles.

Visitors will be able to see 95 selected pieces from 65 artists. Work was received from California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and Ontario.

Selecting the works was guest juror Shayla Fish, a Terre Haute artist and art educator who describes her journey with art as "an enchanting odyssey that began in childhood — a life-long dedication to using art as a sanctuary to escape the world." Fish earned a bachelor's degree in art education at Indiana State University and teaches middle school art in the Vigo County schools.

Visitors to the gallery can experience a bit of her odyssey in a solo exhibition of her work in Arts Illiana's North Gallery during the run of the Crow Show.

Musician Jack Lavey will perform during the opening reception. He will be playing new music off his upcoming album, "Zoochosis." Light refreshments will be available; juror awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.

After the opening, the gallery will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
