‘Beyond Saturday Night’ Trailer Captures Show’s 50-Year History
- Saturday Night Live released a trailer for a four-part docuseries honoring its 50th anniversary, featuring SNL alums recalling favorite sketches and offering behind-the-scenes insight.
Ahead of Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary special, the celebrated sketch show released a trailer for a four-part docuseries honoring the show's knee-slapping skits, acclaimed cast, and its treasured legacy.
"I've been obsessed with Saturday Night Live as long as I can remember," wrote the doc's executive producer Morgan Neville in a statement. "For SNL50 , I've been lucky to collaborate with some of my favorite independent filmmakers to tell some deeper stories of SNL . Taken together, these standalone episodes give a new perspective of SNL and what makes it work."

The SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night trailer, released Tuesday, features SNL alums Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Kenan Thompson, Seth Meyers, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and more recalling their favorite sketches and reciting SNL's famous, cold open outro. Each episode offers a behind-the-scene's look at the show's half-century history including insight from more than 60 contributors. Episode two delves inside the writers room, with a chorus of SNL alums admitting that the people behind some of the most prized sketches go largely unnoticed.
SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night joins a collection of work celebrating the show's 50th anniversary. The Columbia Pictures film, Saturday Night, documenting the American sketch show's first broadcast arrived in October. The film's lead, Gabriel LaBelle, depicting Lorne Michaels, picked up a Best Actor nod at the Golden Globes. SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night arrives Jan. 16, followed by Ladies & Gentleman… 50 years of SNL Music , which will release Jan 27. SNL's three-hour primetime special airs next month.
