Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn is Allegany County destination to cure wintertime blues

Hot-off-the griddle pancakes with real maple syrup can be a carbohydrate cure for the cold winter blues, and a legendary Southern Tier restaurant is ready to provide the remedy beginning early next month.

Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn in Angelica, Allegany County, will open on Feb. 6 for another relatively brief but busy winter season.

The family-owned restaurant prides itself on being off the beaten path at 4321 County Road 15A, but that hasn't stopped thousands of hungry customers from as far away as China and Japan from finding their way to this wintertime oasis for all-you-can-eat pancakes.

Since it was opened by Ronald and Virginia Cartwright in 1963, the Maple Tree Inn has served buckwheat pancakes topped with 100% pure maple syrup. Demand is usually very high, with loyal and passionate diners willing to wait in line for plates of the ultimate comfort food.

Starting Feb. 6, Cartwright's will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cartwright's is closed on Mondays and on Easter Sunday.

The season ends on April 7.

Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn does not accept credit cards. There is an ATM located in the restaurant lobby.

Diners who make the trek will occasionally spot deer and wild turkey while dining in a bustling interior that is both rustic and comfortable.
