Celebrating Valentine's Day in Topeka? Pottery, fine dining and speed dating among options

Whether it be a romantic dinner with a partner or an outing with friends, Topekan establishments are offering opportunities to celebrate the special occasion.

From wine tastings to a game of speed dating, The Capital-Journal is highlighting six events designed for the season of love in the capital city.

Monette Mark, owner of Fire Me Up Ceramics, said she hosts an annual Valentine's Day clay event, which is always memorable for attendees.

"It's been really special," Mark said. "We've seen people make things for their weddings. We've seen people make moments to keep forever. We've seen people make things for their kids even. So, that's really cool as well."

Valentine's Day Clay

From 8:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Fire Me up Ceramics & Fine Arts Studio, 1000 N. Kansas Ave., will host a Valentine's Day Clay event. Projects will be Valentine's Day themed, but participants are welcome to create what they like.

The event is priced at $45 per person and limited to 16 people. Participants can bring their own beverages, and wine glasses will be provided.

The event is open to all ages, but you must be 21 years or older to bring and consume alcohol.

Boxer Q BBQ meal

Boxer Q BBQ is offering a full course meal for those who would rather eat out. The meal will include stuffed mushrooms, salad, 3-pound tomahawk steak, four sides and a slice of cheesecake.

This Valentine's Day special is priced at $100. To pre-order, contact Boxer Q through its Facebook business page. Pre-ordering will end Monday.

Norsemen Brewing Dinner

Starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Norsemen Brewing Co., 830 N. Kansas Ave. will host its fourth annual Valentine's Day Candlelight dinner.

Seats must be reserved and paid for no later than 3 p.m. Sunday, tickets are priced at $80 per person. To make reservations, call Norsemen at 785-783-3999.

The dinner will include a spring mixed salad, red wine braised beef short ribs with roasted red pepper shrimp linguine served with garlic knots and a tiramisu paired with a love potion #9 cocktail.

Happy Bassett Brewing Speed Dating and Dinner

Happy Bassett Brewing Co. will host a free game of speed dating starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Happy Basset Barrel House, 510 S.W. 48th St.

All contact information will be kept confidential unless a mutual match is made, said the VisitTopeka website .

This award-winning comedian and actor will bring his act to Topeka Performing Arts Center

At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Happy Basset will offer its Valentine's Day Dinner at the Barrel House.

Dinner will be $65 and includes music, choice of bottle of wine, two beers or two cocktails. Menu items will include appetizers of shrimp scampi and scallops, garden salad with your choice of dressing. Main course options are tenderloin steak, grilled chicken, grilled salmon and ahi tuna.

Sides will include garlic green beans, corn, loaded baked potatoes and rice. Dessert choices will be cheesecake topped with strawberry, cherry or blueberry, and lava cake with vanilla ice cream.

Axe the Ex: Valentine's Day Event with Axe and Ale

Axe and Ale, 115 S.E. 6th Ave., will provide a Valentine's theme ax throwing experience on Wednesday. There will be limited-time-only digital Valentine's Day games, along with Valentine's cocktails.
