Every now and then, men in Hollywood go viral for chivalrous displays of behavior, while others go viral for… well, the opposite. Inspired by a recent show of gentlemanly courtesy at the 2026 Actor Awards, here's a look back at times celebrities were or weren't considered chivalrous while interacting with women:

CHIVALROUS: As mentioned, at the recent Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards), the men of Sinners didn't hesitate before helping their female costars when taking to the stage to accept the accolade for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Miles Caton held both Li Jun Li and Lola Kirke as they walked in their heels, Michael B. Jordan offered his arm to Jayme Lawson, and Jack O'Connell held the train of Wunmi Mosaku's dress.

NOT SO CHIVALROUS: In 2023, Ben Affleck was filmed looking visibly exhausted as he walked a few steps ahead of his then-wife, Jennifer Lopez, towards a car. He then proceeded to open the door for her, which certainly appeared a chivalrous move… only to dramatically slam the door as soon as she was seated inside.
