Actress dead at 57 after tragic gym incident

French actress Nadia Farès has died at age 57.

Her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, confirmed her passing to French news agency AFP (via The Independent ) earlier this month.

In a written statement released on April 17, the day she passed, they shared their grief. "It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Farès this Friday. France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother we have just lost."

In the days leading up to their mother's death, tragedy struck. According to a report from the French publication, Le Monde , the actress was pulled unconscious from a swimming pool at a private gym in Paris on April 11.

She suffered cardiac arrest and then fell into a coma. She was rushed to the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, where she remained until her passing.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances, though officials currently state that no evidence of wrongdoing has been found.

Farès was no stranger to health scares. In 2007, she opened up to the outlet about undergoing emergency brain surgery for an aneurysm, which she described at the time as a "ticking time bomb."

Besides the aneurysm, the actress also revealed she had undergone three heart surgeries during her life.

Farès, who was born in Marrakesh, Morocco, rose to fame in the 2000s with her role of Judith Herault in the film, "The Crimson River." She went on to star in other Hollywood films, including 2007's "Storm Warning," as well as dozens of French movies.

Farès was on the verge of a major career milestone before her death. In September 2026, she was slated to begin filming an upcoming action-comedy, which would have marked her debut as a director and screenwriter.
