Amy Adams Rejected This SNL Sketch For Being Too Graphic For Young Fans

For most celebrities, hosting Saturday Night Live is the perfect opportunity to have some fun and take a risk. But sometimes, you've got to know where to draw the line.

Appearing on a recent episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers , Amy Adams recalled working with the Lonely Island trio while hosting SNL in March 2008. Amy remembered that Andy Samberg pitched a dirty duet for the two of them that was so sexually "graphic," she had to speak up.

"I'll give you the gist without telling you the punchline," she explained to Seth. "It was this couple [and] he got bit by a spider in the park, and she's like, 'Honey, I love you so much, and now that you're dying, is there any last wish?' And he's like, 'Yes, I never got a chance to…' And then said what could only be described as the most graphic thing that he wanted to do with me."

For context, this happened just a few months after Amy starred as the singing princess Giselle in Enchanted , and she feared that the NSFW sketch idea would be inappropriate — and potentially scarring — for the movie's young fans.

"I was so keenly aware of all the young girls that were watching Enchanted ," she explained. "And I didn't want to be the princess singing about that particular act, you know?"

For that reason, Amy rejected the idea, and fortunately, the team took it well — despite the fact that the song had already been written and fully produced.

Andy previously discussed the "very dirty" song on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast back in 2024 , saying that Amy's rejection of the idea wound up being an important learning curve at that time in his career.

"She was like, 'That's really funny. I can't do that. Little girls are so obsessed with Enchanted right now. They will find this, and it will be scarring for them,'" he recalled Amy saying. "Within five minutes, a mother and her little girl walked up, and the look on the little girl's face upon seeing Amy Adams, I was like, 'Oh, she was so right.'"

"It was very instructive for me," he continued. "It's not something I even ever thought about in our line of work, you know what I mean? Like, she actually has an obligation and a responsibility to those kids, and she took it really seriously. And I remember being really impressed by that."

Andy and Amy wound up switching to another sketch called "Hero Song," about a superhero who beats up a criminal who robbed Amy.
