Bostonians and actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are Red Sox fans, and diehard ones at that, but they wore a San Francisco Giants hat recently in honor of the late Robin Williams .

On Monday, Apr. 27, 2026, Damon and Affleck received an award from Bring Change to Mind in the Bay Area. They were awarded the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award and honored the late comedy icon during their speech (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"We should get this over with," Damon hilariously said to the crowd as he put a Giants hat on. "That's the first time in 55 and that's for Robin."

Damon and Affleck grew up in Massachusetts and are big Boston sports fans as a result. Damon was born in Cambridge, while Affleck was born in California before moving to Massachusetts as a young kid.

They've been friends for decades. In 1997, they co-wrote the script for Good Will Hunting, which they both starred in alongside Williams. The movie has strong ties to Boston, as it is set there. They won an Oscar for their work. Williams also won Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars that year.

Their collaborative relationship has continued over the years. They have launched Artists Equity, a production company. Before that, they founded Pearl Street Films together, which is now defunct.

Damon and Affleck recently produced and starred in The Rip together for Netflix. They will work together again on Animals for Netflix; however, Damon won't appear in it while Affleck leads the cast.

Currently, the Red Sox are struggling. They are just 12-18 through 30 games of the season. They recently went on a three-game win streak after getting swept by the New York Yankees, but the Toronto Blue Jays snapped it in the second game of their ongoing series.
