Rarely-Seen Son of Fred Rogers Shares Hopeful Message 22 Years After His Death
  • Fred Rogers, known as Mr. Rogers, continues to be remembered and cherished for his kind and accepting demeanor, with his son John Rogers emphasizing the enduring impact of his father's message of kindness and positivity.

Over two decades after his death, it's hard to imagine a more genuinely beloved celebrity than Fred Rogers. Better known as simply Mr. Rogers, the host of the iconic children's series Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood , the soft-spoken, kindhearted star was a source of joy and comfort for generations of young TV viewers...and his message is more meaningful than ever.

In a recent interview with Pittsburgh radio station KDKA , Rogers' son, John Rogers, was asked to comment on the fact that his father's name is still "being brought up every day."

"I was talking about that because I'm very interested in, like, a shelf life," John said, agreeing that his father's legacy "doesn't seem to go away."

"So it's the message, and I think it's the message mainly that we we are all pretty much kind and wonderful people," John continued, adding, "I mean, there are bad apples in the world, but I think most of us are. And, you know, he had that gentle demeanor, and the accepting demeanor."

Commenters on a TikTok clip of the interview were quick to agree with John's assessment.

"Mr. Rogers is eternal," one person wrote, with a second adding, "His dad was the nicest person a lot of us heard from as kids."

"We are all better people, thanks to his Dad," declared someone else.

In 2019, John spoke to WESH 2 about what his father was really like when he wasn't in front of the camera.

"What you see is what you get, is what my mom likes to say," John said. "He's not an act, he would not call himself a star, or anything else, he is himself. He took interest in other people, he did not like to talk about himself."

"People would always want to ask questions about him and he would always turn it around and ask about you," he continued, going on to say that he believed his father loved the work of Tom Hanks, who played him in the 2019 film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood .

"He would love it that his work continues and can help people, that was his major goal," John said.
