Robert Downey Jr. Just Helped Launch Disney’s Largest Cruise Ship Ever—and It Has a Roller Coaster

While the Disney Adventureis officially setting sail on the other side of the globe, the news of its star-studded christening in Singaporethis morning has plenty for U.S. fans to get excited about. Not only is this the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Linefleet to date, but it is also making history with a "Godparent" who knows a thing or two about being a hero.

In a move that delighted Marvel fans everywhere, Robert Downey Jr. appeared to officially christen the vessel. "I've had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they've created," he said during the ceremony. Before the traditional blessing, the Iron Man star quipped to the 23-piece orchestra, "You bring the theme and I'll bring the thunder."

For stateside Disney devotees, the Disney Adventure represents a massive leap in what a cruise ship can actually do. Most notably, it is home to the Ironcycle Test Run, the first-ever roller coaster at sea for Disney Cruise Line. The ship features seven immersive themed lands, including a full San Fransokyo Street from Big Hero 6 and a brand-new Broadway-style musical titled "Remember."

"Our cruise ships are ambassadors of our brand that carry joy, wonder and enchantment to destinations around the world," said Josh D'Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company. "As our first ship to homeport in Asia, the Disney Adventure represents a new chapter for Disney Cruise Line."

While the Adventure will be based in Southeast Asia for three- and four-night "staycation" itineraries, its launch is just the beginning of a record-breaking expansion. With eight ships now in the fleet and five more planned by 2031, the "magic" is clearly moving at full speed. Whether you're ready to fly to Singapore for the maiden voyage on March 10or you're just waiting for these new high-tech features to hit a ship closer to home, the message from the christening was clear: Disney is ready to "bring the thunder" to the high seas.
