Tom Brady claims he was able to clone his late dog, Lua .

The former New England Patriots quarterback and current FOX broadcaster revealed Tuesday in a statement with Colossal Biosciences — a company he is an investor in — that he was able to collect blood from Lua before she died in 2023.

Shortly after Lua died, Brady got Junie — a dog that looks strikingly similar to Lua.

"A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family's elderly dog before she passed," Brady said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE .

Colossal — known for its de-extinction efforts — gave Brady and his family "a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog."

Brady adopted Lua with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen before the couple divorced in 2022. Bündchen announced the dog's death in 2023.

In the statement , Brady said he is "excited how Colossal and Viagen's tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species."
