U.K. Influencer Family with 22 Kids Reportedly Fined for Pulling Them Out of School to Go to Disney World

A family of British influencers has reportedly received a fine for taking some of their kids out of school to go to Disney World earlier this year. 

Noel and Sue Radford are the stars of the U.K.'s 22 Kids and Counting on Channel 5. The show follows the family as they raise 21 kids in their 10-bedroom home in Morecambe, Lancashire.

Earlier this year, the Radfords opted to take a trip to Orlando, Fla. to visit Walt Disney World . During their travels, the family posted various highlights including character meet-and-greets, parades, rides and food from the parks to Instagram . 

According to a report from local outlet LancsLive , as a result of the trip, the family was fined for failing to ensure regular attendance at school for four of their children between March 24 and May 1. The report claims the Preston Magistrates Court charged £65 (about $84) per child along with £118 (about $155) court costs.

Last year, the U.K.'s Department for Education introduced a new fine for parents taking children out of school. A press release at the time cited evidence for better wellbeing and school performance for those with good attendance.

"There are only a few occasions where a child is allowed to miss school, such as illness or where the school has given permission because of an exceptional circumstance," the department wrote on Aug. 19, 2024. "However, if your child misses school without a good reason, local councils and schools can intervene and you may be issued a fine."

Legal councils and schools may issue parents fines as well parenting orders, education supervision orders or a school attendance order.

"Ensuring young people receive a good education and have a good start in life is one of our key priorities," a Lancashire County Council spokesperson tells LancsLive . "Evidence shows that attainment is linked to attendance, so supporting our schools with this issue is important."

Noel and Sue Radford had their first child together when Sue was 14 and Noel was 18. They later married when she was 17 and he was 21. They now share 22 children ranging in age from 5 to 36. They also have 13 grandchildren.

The family originally found fame via a 2012 U.K. docuseries called 15 Kids and Counting and later in their solo series, which debuted in 2023.

They added: "The laws on attendance are very clear and there are some legitimate reasons why pupils can't always go to school… We always encourage schools to work closely with parents to reduce unauthorized absences and our aim is to ensure that children and young people attend school and receive a good education."

Neither the Radfords nor representatives for the Preston Magistrate Court immediately replied to PEOPLE's request for comment.
