A Gen Z popstar has declared that nobody she knows with children is happy.

US singer Chappell Roan said everybody she knew who had become parents were "in hell".

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast about parenthood, the Grammy-winning artist, 27, said: "All of my friends who have kids are in hell.

"I actually don't know anyone who's happy and has children at this age.

"I have literally not met anyone who is happy or has light in their eyes, anyone who has slept."

She admitted she didn't know when it would be "realistic" for her to have her own family.

However, her comments have sparked controversy online.

One social media user said: "Parenthood is the exquisite inconvenience of being another person's everything. It grounds you. It completes you. And children make your life important."

Another accused her of "projection" and claimed people with children "consistently rank higher on life satisfaction and happiness".

One person labelled her "narcissistic" and added: "Chappell Roan going on Call Her Daddy saying none of her friends with kids are happy, is a prime example of why you cannot just vent to anyone.

"I guarantee she has this perspective because a few of her mum's friends are going through it – may a friendship like that never ever find me."

Another said her viewpoint was "so out of touch and disappointing" because motherhood should be "celebrated".
