Chris Stapleton Talks Working With Justin Timberlake on ‘Say Something’ & His Sneaky Appearance on ‘Filthy’
Chris Stapletonwas a big winner at the60th annual Grammy Awards Sundaynight (Jan. 28), taking home all three of the awards he was up, including best country solo performance ("Either Way"), best country song ("Broken Halos") and best country album ( From A Room: Volume 1 ). Prior to his clean sweep, Stapleton started off Grammy weekend strong with the release of hisJustin Timberlakecollaboration "Say Something," which the country crooner actually didn't plan on singing with the "Supplies" singer.
"I really just went out to Los Angeles to write songs with him," Stapleton told Billboard in the Grammys press room while balancing his three awards in his hands. "It's a very fluid process with him, there's a lot going on. That was one of those things where there wasn't necessarily a plan. He was like 'All right, you hop in there and take a verse,' and I'm like, 'You want me to do what?' … It came out great. I had a blast with him, he's a great creative force and one of those guys that if you get a chance to work with him, you should."

Along with his involvement on "Say Something," Stapleton also wrote Timberlake'sAlicia Keyscollaboration, "Morning Light," and others he couldn't remember the titles of while trying to juggle his new Grammys. And although fans will only hear Stapleton's award-winning voice on one track from Timberlake's forthcoming Man Of The Woods album, the "Tennessee Whiskey" singer also snuck his way into JT's lead single.
"I play guitar on the very first sound you hear on 'Filthy,'" Stapleton revealed. "That's me playing with a delay pedal on a jazz master. We were around makin' music [for Man Of The Woods ], and it was a great time."
