Fox’s Reality Competition Series ‘Extracted’ Uses More Cameras Than the Upcoming Super Bowl

  • "Extracted" is a reality series on Fox where amateur survivalists in the Canadian wilderness are monitored by cameras installed throughout the woods, with family members at HQ debating on whether to extract them for the loss of a $250,000 prize.

“Extracted,” the upcoming reality series on Fox about amateur survivalists left in the Canadian wilderness, might have the craziest video village of any TV show.

Not that it’s technically a video village. “Extracted” calls it HQ, where family members of the survivalists gather to watch surveillance footage (courtesy of cameras installed throughout the woods) and debate on if their relative is suffering enough to warrant extraction — and the loss of the $250,000 prize.

In an exclusive super tease, things seem to take a decidedly family therapy turn as those in HQ struggle to decide when enough is enough. Or, as a press release puts it, “Tensions mount and strategic alliances are forged, as the opposing families negotiate and compete to send essential lifelines and resources to their competitors in the wild, to help them endure the harsh conditions they are faced with. Pressure reaches a fever pitch as each family is faced with the critical decision — will they push their loved one to the brink or push the Button?”

“I do not want my baby girl to suffer,” one dad says in the teaser. That’s not everyone’s attitude, however; “I’m not pushing the button. Let him suffer,” another relative says of a different competitor.

To accomplish all of this, “Extracted” shot 24/7, using 8 miles of fiber integration, 176 cameras (all individually recording), and 100 audio feeds. That’s more cameras than will be used at the upcoming Super Bowl .

Watch an extended sneak peek in the video below.

“Extracted” is produced by B17 Entertainment (a part of Sony Pictures Television), Balboa Productions, and FOX Alternative Entertainment. Executive producers are Rhett Bachner, Brien Meagher, Sylvester Stallone, Braden Aftergood, Kourosh Taj, Lauren Taylor Harding, Dan Bree, and Rob Buchta, with Buchta also serving as showrunner.
