  • HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed that the Game of Thrones spinoff centered on Jon Snow is currently not in development, but may be revisited in the future.

All hope is not lost for a Game of Thrones spinoff about Jon Snow.

HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed Tuesday Kit Harington’s revelation earlier this year that the sequel series is no longer in development, at least for now, but that doesn’t mean the network won’t circle back to the idea at a later date.

“Maybe we’ll try again,” Bloys said during a press preview event for HBO and Max’s upcoming 2025 slate. He didn’t expand on what factors might make that spinoff possible.

In April, Harington told ScreenRant that the series was “off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being.”

The actor also did echo Bloys’ sentiment, adding: “There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”

There are currently two prequel  GoT  series, including House of the Dragon , which pulled strong viewership for its second season this summer. There’s also the upcoming  A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms , a series lighter in tone than its predecessors, following Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. That one is in production.

“So far [those] are the only ones that we felt could go the distance,” Bloys said Thursday. “I mean, practically speaking, you don’t want to overdo any anything. There’s no blinking green lights on any other ones. At the moment, we take our time with them, with the development, and only do them when we can serve it.”

Word of the potential series, a sequel to  Game of Thrones  centered on Harington’s Jon  Snow  character,  got out in June 2022 . Following the leak, author George R.R. Martin  revealed  that the series had  Snow  as a working title and that it had writers/showrunners on board, brought in by Harington.
