Going for baroque: Early Music in Columbus' 45th season to begin Oct. 4
By using period instruments and vocal techniques to recreate pre-1800 music as heard by the composers, the Early Music in Columbus concert series brings the past to the present.
Spotlighting works from the medieval, Renaissance, baroque and early classical periods, the series' 45thseason begins next month and will feature:

Oct. 4: Les Délices, "Harmonie," an all-Mozart program including selections from "The Magic Flute," "Don Giovanni" and Serenade in C minor K 388. (First Community Church South, 1320 Cambridge Blvd.)

Oct. 25: Cappella Pratensis, "The Golden Mass: The Story of the Annunciation," Guillaume DuFay's "Missa Ecce ancilla Domini," also known as "The Golden Mass celebrating the Annunciation," performed directly from historical notation. (St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St.)

Dec. 11: Apollo's Fire, "Messiah," a nationally acclaimed interpretation of George Frideric Handel's masterwork in which the singers become musical storytellers. (Mees Auditorium, Capital Conservatory of Music, 2230 E. Mound St., Bexley)

Jan. 4, 2025: The Early Interval, "Joyeux Noël: A French Twelfth Night Celebration," a holiday tradition featuring traditional carols, instrumentals and baroque vocals. (St. Joseph Cathedral)

Feb. 7, 2025: Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, "The Bassanos: From Renaissance Italy to Tudor England," an exploration by wind players of the Bassano family, one of the most prominent examples of musical immigration in 16th-century Europe. (North Broadway United Methodist Church, 48 E. North Broadway St.)

March 8, 2025: Ricercar Consort with soprano Céline Scheen, "The Virgin's Teares," a program of works by Claudio Monteverdi, Henry Purcell, Antonio Vivaldi and Handel focusing on the joy, anger, doubt and despair experienced by the Virgin Mary. (Mees Auditorium)

April 4, 2025: Fior Angelico, "Palestrina 500," a performance of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's six-part "Missa Tu es Petrus." (St. Joseph Cathedral)
A preshow talk will begin half an hour before each 7:30 p.m. concert. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 general, $28 for seniors and $15 for students at earlymusicincolumbus.org or at the door.
