Jennie Garth  only has fond memories of working with  Luke Perry — even of the time he almost killed her.

The former  Beverly Hills, 90210  star recounted a harrowing on-set accident that could have resulted in a serious injury during a 90210 panel on Saturday at 90s Con. Joined by her fellow castmates Brian Austin Green Gabrielle Carteris Ian Ziering Jason Priestley , and  Tori Spelling , Garth recalled taping a season 3 episode in which she and Perry were "in the ocean filming, and then they took jet skis. They said, 'Get on these and go into the shore for lunch.'" It should have been that simple.

Garth explained that production asked for the stars' bodyguards to drive them each back to shore, but "Luke didn't want his bodyguard to drive. He wanted to drive it, so he was in front, and there was a fisherman... and then there was a line. He went through it and yelled, 'Duck!' Meaning, 'Don't let the line catch you.' And I was like, 'What?'"

"I got tagged, and it didn't decapitate me or anything," Garth joked. Floating with her life jacket still thankfully secured, Garth remembered that Perry "came around and tried to save me, but hit me in the head, and I went unconscious."

Garth and Perry played two of the most consequential characters on 90210 : the spoiled-yet-humble Kelly Taylor and wise heartthrob Dylan McKay. The characters knew each other as children, harboring a mutual crush on each other for years before friendship finally blossomed into romance. Garth and Perry's characters dated on and off throughout many of 90210 's 10 seasons, cementing their legacy as one of the show's most beloved couples.

Garth has spoken about being devastated by Perry's death in 2019 after suffering a stroke. She recently said it " still doesn't make sense to my brain" that both Perry and 90210 star Shannen Doherty are gone, Doherty having died in July 2024 after a struggle with breast cancer. "I live in a world where they still are a lot in my mind. So it's very, very hard to understand that they're not here physically," she said.

On Saturday's 90s Con panel, Garth recounted another humorous memory on set with Perry. "One time I was doing a scene with Luke in his car," she began. "I don't know, he was being sassy or mean — brotherly mean — to me. I was spraying Binaca in my mouth, and something came over me, and I turned around and sprayed it in his eye."

Garth laughed while recalling, "We had to stop production, his eye was tearing. I wish I didn't do that."
