Kelly Clarkson Defends Her Gay Fans in Inspiring Tweet: ‘Love Shared Between Two People Should Be Praised’
Ever since winning the very first season of American Idol , pop singer Kelly Clarkson has been an outspoken ally to the LGBTQ community. Whether she was supporting contestants during her stint as a judge on The Voice , including a gay couple in her "Tie It Up" video or just acknowledging her queer fans, Clarkson has always made it a point to be there for the LGBTQ community.
Part of being a supportive ally means standing up for marginalized communities when they are being attacked, and Clarkson certainly didn't shy away from that task on Monday (August 20). A commenter responded to the singer's support of two of her fans' same-sex wedding, using homophobic slurs and calling homosexuality "a sin any way you cut it."

Instead of ignoring the comment, Clarkson decided to make an example out of the tweet, retweeting and commenting on the post herself. "I almost didn't respond 2 this because hate doesn't deserve a spotlight but u know what, truth does," she wrote. "The truth is that God is Love, & Love shared between two people should be praised not condemned in my personal opinion. I love u 2 although we see the world/love differently."
Fans immediately praised Clarkson not only for standing up for two of her queer fans, but for handling the situation properly without putting anyone else down. The fan who was being attacked thanked the "Breakaway" singer, saying, "I saw that comment and was going to say something, but it wouldn't have been as nice as you just put it," she wrote. "Thank you for standing up for 'us' and more importantly, for what you believe in."
