Literary pick for week of Sept. 10

Rain Taxi Review begins the countdown to the Oct. 14 Twin Cities Book Festival and launches its Fall Reading Series by hosting the virtual U.S. launch of Booker Award-winning Irish writer Anne Enright's new novel "The Wren, The Wren," in conversation with American author Francine Prose. The free event will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13.
"The Wren, The Wren" is about a woman who never knew her grandfather, a famed Irish poet, but his love poems seem to speak directly to her. She leaves her mother's home to find her voice as a writer. Her mother, too, knows the magic of her Daddo's poetry — and the broken promises within its verses. When the poet abandons his family, his daughter struggles to reconcile "the poet" with the man whose desertion scars his granddaughter. The story brings together three generations of women who contend with inheritances of abandonment and a sustaining love.
Enright is the author of seven previous novels, most recently "Actress," as well as story collections and nonfiction. She has won numerous awards including the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.
