Mae Velma's Corned Beef is planning to open a new location at the former Buffalo Boss spot

Mae Velma's Corned Beef is adding a fourth location, this one in the former Buffalo Boss wings restaurant at 540 N. 27th St.

The new location comes just a year after owner Tyron Smith opened a third location for the fast-casual sandwich spot at 3872 N. Teutonia Ave.

He said the new location was about as far south as we was looking to go, as his businesses are primarily on the north and northwest side of the city.

"I kind of have all four corners of the area, and I still have my food truck, which I usually park near Midtown," Smith said.

The new location will have the same menu as the others, with corned beef, Italian beef and catfish sandwiches; fried chicken; shrimp and grits dishes; and more.

The original Mae Velma's opened at 4101 N. 76th St. in 2017. Its other locations are 3872 N. Teutonia Ave. and 7276 N. Teutona Ave., where Smith also opened Belle's Ice Cream shop in February.

Smith hopes to open the new location by April 1. He said the spot was in good condition and should pass health inspections.

Buffalo Boss closed after renewing license

Popular wings spot Buffalo Boss was previously in the space from September 2023 to October 2024.

It appeared to be on track to reopen as owner Taj Pearsall appeared before the city's Licenses Committee on Feb. 19 to renew the restaurant's license.

Smith said he purchased the building and was unsure of future plans for Buffalo Boss.

Pearsall did not want to comment on plans for Buffalo Boss.
