Major Detail in Taylor Swift Song Lyrics Officially Confirmed
- Taylor Swift's song "The Tortured Poets Department" from her latest album references a girl named "Lucy," who has been confirmed to be Lucy Dacus of the band Boy Genius.
Taylor Swift is widely considered one of the greatest songwriters of the generation with the way she often includes hidden meanings and references inside of her songs for her fans to uncover. Now, one of those details has been officially revealed.
In Swift's song "The Tortured Poets Department" from her latest album by the same name, the pop sensation makes mention of a girl by the name of "Lucy" in the song that many fans believe is about Swift's ex Matty Healy.
"Sometimes, I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen / Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be / 'Cause we're crazy," the lyrics read.
Now, the identity of "Lucy" in the song has been officially confirmed.
During a recent interview with People Magazine, Lucy Dacus of the band Boy Genius confirmed that she is indeed the "Lucy" that is mentioned in the song, and she says that Swift actually texted her and asked for permission.

"I think it's fair game to say 'yes,'" Dacus told People Magazine. "She actually texted me and asked for my approval."
While Dacus obviously gave Taylor her blessing to include her name in the song and she knew it was coming, she admits that it was "crazy" to hear someone she grew up listening to sing her name in a song.
"Well, I pushed play on the album just like, 'Oh, this is so crazy,'" Dacus recalled. "This is the first Taylor record to come out since meeting her, and listening to a friend's record feels so much different than a stranger's record.
"So I was like, 'This is really weird. This voice that I've heard basically what feels like my whole waking life saying my name.'"
"It was definitely an experience," Dacus continued. "I sat down and I was like, 'Huh. Wow.' But I think that that record of hers is super open-hearted, and I don't know how many people at her level, if anyone is at her level, are writing from the heart that openly."
That officially solves one mystery of Taylor's lyrics. But obviously, many more remain.
