MNEK Takes On Homophobic YouTube Commenter: ‘Loving Another Man Is Not a Demonic Act’
Celebrities in the LGBTQ community often have to deal with an onslaught of negative, hateful comments in their social media feeds, but it's rare that we see celebrities respond to these comments publicly.
MNEK, however, decided to take to his Instagram and show his followers what a hate comment can look like. The singer posted a photo of a YouTube comment, calling MNEK's "Tongue" video "so wrong" and saying "you can clearly see a demon is in control of this guy."

The acclaimed singer-songwriter took a moment at the beginning of his post to thank his fans for their unwavering support for his new song. "I've received such amazing messages from people old to young, black to white saying how much they're enjoying my music," he said.
He then took a moment to address the fact that as a gay performer, he understands that an open portrayal of sexuality is going to be jarring for some people. "OBVIOUSLY, throughout what I'm doing, there will be people who don't like it, don't get it, or are just straight up uncomfortable with how gay it is," he said.
MNEK spoke directly about the comment, saying that he sees an opportunity to bring awareness and representation to the LGBTQ community through his music. "Loving another man is not a demonic act," he wrote. "Especially not in a music video! If videos like mine can help a young kid come to terms with their truth, I'm doing more good in the world than a keyboard warrior."
The singer finished out his post by condemning the commenter and any other homophobic individuals reading, saying that he would not tone down his personality to please someone who doesn't care about him. "If you're a homophobe and want to spray hate on comments etc etc., you should know that my moodboard rn is BLACK FAGGOT POP SUPERSTAR," he said. "So it's about to get eeeeeven gayer. Get with the program or get out!"
