Movie theater to receive IMAX upgrade with 'Captain America'

When Captain America makes his explosive return to the big screen, Athens movie-goers will be able to witness it on the largest screen within 36 miles.

GTC University 16 Cinemas recently announced via their official Facebook page that the theater will be upgrading one of its screens to an IMAX auditorium. The first movie scheduled to be shown in the format will be "Captain America: Brave New World," which opens on Friday, Feb. 14.

The closest IMAX screen to Athens is at the Regal theater inside the Mall of Georgia, which is located in Buford and opened in 1999.

University 16 Cinema is located at 1793 Oconee Connector inside the Epps Bridge Centre shopping center.
