Disney’s next live-action remake just found its two leads
LOS ANGELES — Disney has officially found the two actors who will play the main roles in its live-action version of "Tangled," the studio announced this week. The movie is a live-action remake of the popular 2010 animated film about a princess and a thief on a big adventure.
Disney confirmed that Teagan Croft will play Rapunzel , the curious princess with long, magical hair who dreams of seeing the world outside her tower. Croft is an Australian actress known for her role in the TV show "Titans" and the movie "True Spirit."
The role of Flynn Rider, the charming thief who helps Rapunzel escape her tower, will be played by Milo Manheim. Manheim is known to fans from Disney's Zombies films and his work on stage and television.
Croft and Manheim will take on roles first voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the animated classic.
Disney said the movie will come only to theaters and that the two stars were chosen after a long audition process. Fans have been eager to hear who would play the beloved characters ever since the live-action project was announced.
The live-action "Tangled" will be directed by Michael Gracey, who also directed "The Greatest Showman." The script is written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who has worked on movies like "Do Revenge" and "Thor: Love and Thunder."
The original "Tangled" film was a huge hit when it came out in 2010. It earned more than $590 million around the world and became a favorite for many Disney fans because of its fun story, memorable songs and lovable characters.
Disney's trend of turning animated classics into live-action movies has included hits like "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid." Tangled joins the growing list of musicals brought to life with real actors.
No official release date has been announced yet, but production on the live-action "Tangled" is expected to begin soon, with filming likely beginning in the coming months.
While Disney has shared who will play the two leads, the role of Mother Gothel, the villain in the story, has not been filled yet.
