M. Night Shyamalan and 'Remain' cast may be back in RI next month. Here's why.

Are Jake Gyllenhaal and M. Night Shyamalan coming back to Providence in February?

Steven Feinberg , executive director of the Rhode Island Film & Television Office, will go before the State Properties Committee Tuesday, Jan. 20, to seek permission for Two Beacons Productions to use the Cranston Street Armory to film a movie.

Two Beacons is the name under which Shyamalan filmed his supernatural romantic thriller " Remain " at the Armory, as well as multiple locations across the state.

'Remain' crew could return to Rhode Island

Feinberg told The Providence Journal that the acclaimed filmmaker would either reshoot scenes done last year, or film additional scenes for the movie, which is being done in tandem with bestselling novelist Nicholas Sparks, who release a novel version of "Remain" in October.

The movie and the novel feature essentially the same characters and the same premise, though it's expected that the plots won't be identical, especially the ending.

Feinberg declined to say which cast members are expected to be in Providence in February.

While some scenes set at a bed-and-breakfast were shot at an isolated house in Warren, the interior of the house was recreated on sets inside the Armory. Those were left intact after the production wrapped principle photography in August.

Besides Gyllenhaal, who plays architect Tate Donovan, " Remain " stars:

• Ashley Walters is Oscar, Tate Donovan's best friend

• Phoebe Dynevor is Wren Tobin, a sometimes-tormented ghost who meets Tate Donovan at the bed-and-breakfast where he is staying

• Jay O. Sanders is Reece, the caretaker at the bed-and-breakfast where Tate Donovan is staying

• Julie Hagerty is Louise, caretaker Reece's wife

• Caleb Ruminer is Griffin, Wren Tobin's husband

• Kieran Mulcare is Dax, a counselor at a mental health center who may have been romantically involved with Wren Tobin

• Hannah James is Tessa, Dax's wife

• M. Night Shyamalan is Nash, Wren Tobin's business partner

• Maria Dizzia is Sydney

• Tracy Ifeachor is Theresa
