Mandy Moore Wishes ‘More Folks’ Would Watch This ‘Funny’ 2004 Film She Was in

Mandy Moore is widely known for mainstream hits like A Walk to Remember and The Princess Diaries , but she thinks one of her less popular projects is an underrated gem: 2004's indie satire Saved! .

At the time, the film marked a departure from the polished roles that first brought Moore widespread attention, allowing her to lean into sharper, more comedic territory. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly , the 42-year-old actress reflected on the experience and admitted she wished more people would revisit it.  

"I really liked that movie," Moore told the outlet. "I thought it was…a great group of young actors. It was such a fun experience to make."

Moore was just 18 years old when she took on the role of Hilary Faye, the outspoken and deeply devout best friend to Mary, played by Jena Malone . The story followed Mary's attempt to change her boyfriend's sexuality, a decision that ultimately led to unexpected consequences, including a pregnancy. 

Moore starred alongside Macaulay Culkin , Eva Amurri , and Mary-Louise Parker , forming a dynamic ensemble that helped bring the film to life.

"It's really irreverent and funny," she told Entertainment Weekly. "I feel like I'd love for more folks to see that film."

In 2024, while speaking to PEOPLE for the movie's 20th anniversary, Moore recalled the experience as feeling like "summer camp." The cast quickly formed close bonds while living and working together during production.

"I'm bombarded with memories of set. We all were staying at the same hotel together while we were shooting, and I just remember all the time we would spend with each other in one another's rooms," she said. "Like, 'Okay, we're all going to Jena's room today.' Or, 'Oh, we're all going to Eva's room today, or Mac's room,' and we made dinners or we ordered food and we just hung out."

And despite being so young in age, Moore says she and the cast recognized how special the project really was. "We knew that it was a really weird, special, little tiny thing," she told PEOPLE. "It wasn't lost on us what we were doing."
