Oscars to leave Hollywood for L.A. Live's Peacock Theater in 2029
The Oscars are moving from their longtime home at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a 10-year partnership with live entertainment giant AEG on March 26 that will make L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles the new Oscars home beginning with the 101st ceremony in 2029 and continuing through 2039.
The Peacock Theater in the LA Live complex will host the ceremony, replacing the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, which has housed the Oscars since 2002.
"For the 101st Oscars and beyond, the Academy looks forward to closely collaborating with AEG to make L.A. Live the perfect backdrop for our global celebration of cinema," Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Lynette Howell Taylor said in a joint statement.
As part of this partnership, L.A. Live owner AEG will undertake "comprehensive enhancements" to the Peacock Theater, including upgrades to the stage, sound and lighting systems, lobbies, backstage facilities and additional areas critical to the production. AEG will collaborate closely with the film academy to incorporate "bespoke design elements needed to accommodate the Oscars ceremony," according to the statement.
The Academy released a rendering of what the Oscars stage at L.A. Live could look like, which does not represent the final design.
The Peacock Theater will be the first venue to host the Oscars when the televised show moves to YouTube, through an exclusive global rights deal that begins in 2029. The YouTube deal currently runs through 2033.
The Oscars will continue to be held at the Dolby Theatre and televised live on ABC in 2027 and through the 100th Academy Awards in 2028.
