Arts in the Area: Hosmer Gallery hosts collage exhibition

At the Hosmer Gallery at Forbes Library in Northampton, an exhibition of collages by Kristi W. Colbert, Maureen G. Manning, and Ryan Mihaly is currently open and will run through Oct. 30.

An artists' reception is set for Friday, Oct. 9, from 5-8 p.m.

Colbert, a Leverett-based artist, creates landscapes from recycled paper painted with gouache, colored pencil, and crayon. Manning, of Amherst, combines found photographs with depictions of people, plants, animals, and fungi. Mihaly presents hand-cut collages made between 2008 and 2020 using paper, glue, and board.

K and E Theater Group

K and E Theater Group will stage Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize–winning musical "Sunday in the Park with George" at Northampton Center for the Arts, 33 Hawley St., from Oct. 10-12 and Oct. 16–18.

Performances will be on the following schedule:

• Friday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m.

• Saturday, Oct. 11, 1 and 8 p.m.

• Sunday, Oct. 12, 4 p.m.

• Thursday and Friday, Oct. 16 and 17, 8 p.m.

• Saturday, Oct. 18, 1 and 8 p.m.

Performances are directed by Eddie Zitka with music direction by David Cavallin. Michael Graham stars as George, with Nicki Elledge-Hickey as Dot/Marie. Tickets are $27 general admission.

Opera House Players Fall Fest

Opera House Players will hold their first Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Enfield Town Green. The event will include holiday décor, crafts, baked goods, and other items from regional vendors such as Jane Jewels and Treasures, White Apron Bakery, Moon & Spirit Apothecary, and Wulfemoon Studios. Performances will feature Parris and Minus 3. Attendees may also participate in paint pouring with Emi-Sue Creations and hair decorating with Lucky Locks.

UMass stage and music performances

At UMass Amherst, two major arts events will take place in October. UMass Theater will open its season with Yoga Play by Dipika Guha, directed by Rose Schwietz Malla. The production, a satire of the yoga apparel industry, runs at the Curtain Theater on Oct. 17, 18, 22, 24, and 25 at 7:30 p.m., with additional shows on Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17 for general admission and $5 for students, seniors, and Card to Culture patrons.

Also on Oct. 17, the Department of Music and Dance will present the 51st Annual Multibands Pops Concert in Tillis Hall at 7:30 p.m., launching UMass Family Weekend. Thirteen student ensembles will perform wind, jazz, orchestral, choral, percussion, and chamber music during the first half of the program. The second half will feature the UMass Minuteman Marching Band performing selections from its 2025 field show, joined by the color guard and twirlers. More than 700 students will take part. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $18 for students, seniors, and UMass faculty and staff.

Sitar concert

Indian sitarist Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury (SUBMITTED)The Westfield News

On Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., Indian sitarist Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury will perform a concert of North Indian classical music at All Saints Episcopal Church, 7 Woodbridge St., South Hadley. He will be joined on tabla by percussionist Pt. Arup Chattopadhyay. The performance is part of a global music series presented by the nonprofit HARTSNE. Tickets, available at bit.ly/sitar25 and at the door, range from $12 to $35. Chai and refreshments will be served.
