Pop icon pushes back start of farewell tour after discovering ‘cancerous spot’
Barry Manilow has been forced to push back the opening dates of his farewell tour due to his recent cancer diagnosis.
The 82-year-old singer has to hit pause after doctors discovered a "cancerous spot" in his left lung, Manilow said in a statement on his Facebook Monday, Dec. 22.
"As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks," he wrote. "Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI to make sure that everything was OK."
The "Mandy" singer continued, "The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It's pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That's the good news."
However, Manilow said the "bad news" is that he needs surgery to have the spot removed.
"The doctors do not believe it was spread and I'm taking tests to confirm their diagnosis," he wrote. "So, that's it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns."
With that, the Grammy nominee has rescheduled 10 shows on his farewell tour, some of which were originally slated for as early as January 2026.

"Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!" he wrote.
