Rock Hall of Fame band teases tour, introduces new drummer with AI video
Foo Fighters chose a tongue-in-cheek AI video to tease the band's upcoming tour and introduce their new drummer.
The video, featuring AI versions of each of the band's members, was posted to Foo Fighters' YouTube Tuesday night, Sept. 16, with the title, "A Message from Foo Fighters."
A fake Dave Grohl opens the video by saying, "Hey, everyone. It's been a while. But I'm happy to announce that Foo Fighters are coming back to bring you that 100% real, raw, human element of rock and roll."
He then proceeds to hold up a piece of paper with illegible writing and says, "I mean, with a setlist like this, how can you can't go wrong"
Bassist Nate Mendel then weighs in by saying, "After 30 years of being a band, we've realized that the most important thing to us, is that what you see and hear coming from our speakers is the genuine passion of the six living, breathing human beings on stage."
Guitarist Pat Smear then adds that Foo Fighters want fans to feel that the group's music is "true."
An AI Chris Shiflett then tells viewers that the band have been "preparing something special" and "rehearsing tirelessly" to give audiences their best shows "from the heart."
Lastly, Grohl introduces the band's new drummer before the video shows a 10-armed Ilan Rubin smashing away at a huge kit. The video ends with the message, "Stay tuned… there's more to come!!!"
Foo Fighters have been off the road since September 2024 and are set to return to the stage with upcoming shows in Indonesia (Oct. 2), Singapore (Oct. 4), Japan (Oct. 7, 8, 10) and Mexico (Nov. 12, 14).
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band introduced Rubin at a surprise show in California on Sunday, Sept. 14, which also marked their first concert in 2025.
"Last night with @foofighters could not have been a better time," Rubin wrote on his Instagram the day after the show.
"After keeping my head down for a couple wild months and throwing myself into the material, that first show was such an incredible release of energy," he wrote. "I've been taken aback by all the positivity and support, and I just wanted to say thanks! Excited for all the volume and sweat that lies ahead."
Rubin, formerly part of Nine Inch Nails, was brought on to replace Josh Freese, who was reportedly fired in May .
"The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer.' No reason was given. :(," Freese wrote in an Instagram post on May 16 . "Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band."
Freese joined the band in 2023 after he was brought on to replace late drummer Taylor Hawkins .
