Rock legend, 76, attacked by alleged stalker (reports)
A rock legend was attacked by an alleged stalker, according to multiple reports.
Lindsey Buckingham, a singer-guitarist best known for his work in Fleetwood Mac, was assaulted Wednesday by a woman in Santa Monica, California, according to NBC . She allegedly threw an "unknown substance" on Buckingham and then ran off.
Sources told ABC News that the woman found out about an appointment Buckingham had and showed up at the building at that time. The woman is allegedly known to Buckingham and law enforcement from previous incidents.
Buckingham, 76, was not injured during the attack.
Santa Monica police and the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating, with the LAPD's Threat Management Unit taking the lead on the case. An arrest is expected soon, NBC sources said.
"To protect the integrity of the open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be provided, at this time," the LAPD said in a statement.
Buckingham is a Grammy-winning musician who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Fleetwood Mac. He joined the band with his then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks, performing with the group from 1975 to 1987 and from 1996 to 2018; Buckingham wrote Fleetwood Mac songs like "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk," and "Big Love," and famously inspired Nicks to write about their breakup on "Silver Springs."
Buckingham, named one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stone, is also known for his solo work as a musician and producer. Last year, he and Nicks reissued their 1973 album, "Buckingham and Nicks," and plans to release a new solo album soon.
"Just the energy in terms of what Buckingham Nicks did, to sort of create a resurgence of connection between Stevie and myself, I think on a larger scale, that seems to be something that's in the air," Buckingham said on social media last week. "And what that translates to, specifically, I wouldn't want to speculate yet, but I believe with all my heart it will translate to something good."
