Trevor Noah, threatened by Trump over Grammys joke, heads to Nashville
Author, comedian and podcast host Trevor Noah heads to Nashville for a two-night engagement at the Ryman Auditorium, about a week after President Donald Trump threatened to sue him over a joke.
Noah appears at the Ryman Auditorium on Feb. 9 and 10 as part of his nationwide winter tour.
After the Feb. 1 Grammy Awards show, Trump posted a lengthy statement on Truth Social threatening legal action over jokes Noah made referencing Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.
In a monologue after congratulating singer Billie Eilish on winning the Grammy for song of the year , Noah said, "That is a Grammy that every artist wants almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, which makes sense … because Epstein's island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton."
Trump denied ever visiting Epstein's Little St. James island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where much of Epstein's alleged trafficking of underage girls occurred, in an early morning Feb. 2 post on Truth Social , before levelling legal threats at Noah.
"The Grammys are the worst, virtually unwatchable!" Trump said, later adding that "Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast. It looks like I'll be spending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and sue him for plenty$ (sic)."
The awards ceremony was full of political statements, with multiple nominees making statements in opposition to Trump's immigration enforcement operations.
Ken Paulson, director of the national Free Speech Center at Middle Tennessee State University and former editor in chief of USA TODAY, said there is "no point in trying to sue a comedian for making fun of people in power."
