‘My Old Ass’: Read The Screenplay For Megan Park’s Spirit Awards-Nominated Coming-Of-Age Comedy
- "My Old Ass" is a coming-of-age comedy starring Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza about a teenager who meets her future self during a mushroom trip before heading off to college.
Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series that spotlights the scripts from the year’s most talked-about movies continues with My Old Ass , Megan Park’s coming-of-age comedy about a teenager who encounters the adult woman she’s destined to turn into in 20 years.
The LuckyChap and Indian Paintbrush production stars Maisy Stella, Aubrey Plaza, Maddie Ziegler, Percy Hynes White and Kerrice Brooks. It follows the irreverent Elliott (Stella), who comes face-to-face with her older self (Plaza) — her self-proclaimed “old ass” — during a mushroom trip before heading off to college. The encounter spurs a journey of self-discovery and first love as Elliott prepares to leave her childhood home.

The screenplay has already scored a Spirit Awards nomination , where Stella scored a Breakthrough Performance nom. It also made the National Board of Review ‘s Top 10 Independent Films list.
My Old Ass had its world premiere at Sundance, a first for Park, where the film was nabbed by Amazon MGM Studios in a bidding war. Coming away from the festival, My Old Ass scored 89% fresh with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It hit theaters in mid-September and is now streaming on Prime Video.

Before switching gears to writer-director, Park portrayed Grace Bowman for seven seasons in The Secret Life of the American Teenager . My Old Ass is her second feature after writing and directing 2021’s The Fallout .
