  • Hulu surprises viewers by releasing first episode of new drama series Paradise early, ahead of scheduled premiere date.

Hulu has made the first episode of its new drama series Paradise available on the platform. The surprise drop comes two days before the thriller, which reunites This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman and star Sterling K. Brown, was supposed to premiere with the first three episodes. Episodes 2 and 3 will still debut on Hulu Jan. 28 as scheduled.

The reviews for Paradise are already out and have been largely positive, which may have encouraged the early release. What’s more, Episode 1 ends with one of the series’ many jaw-dropping twists, so the hope is likely that the cliffhanger would hook viewers in.

The official logline reflects only one side of the genre-mixing drama: “ Paradise is set in a serene, wealthy community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquility explodes when a shocking murder occurs and a high stakes investigation unfolds.”

As the trailer for the series already revealed, the victim is a U.S. President, played by James Marsden, with Sterling, the head of his security detail, as a suspect.

That cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Michelle Meredith, Cassidy Freeman Gerald McRaney, Krys Marshall, Charlie Evans and Jon Beavers.

Produced by 20th Television, Paradise is created and executive produced by Fogelman. Brown, Jess Rosenthal, John Hoberg, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and Steve Beers also executive produce.
