Shania Twain Apologizes for Saying She Would Have Voted for Donald Trump: ‘My Answer Was Awkward’
Don't be stupid,Shania Twaindidn't mean that thing she said about supporting Donald Trump. The "What Made You Say That" singer took serious heat from some fans over the weekend when she was quoted in an interview with The Guardian saying that even though she's Canadian she would have voted for the president because "even though he was offensive, he seemed honest… do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn't be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don't want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent."
Well, as you might expect, that drew some blowback for the singer, who posted a four-part apology for her comments on Sunday night (Apr. 22), making it clear that she doesn't have "any common beliefs with the current President," not naming Trump in any of her tweets.

"I would like to apologise to anybody I have offended in a recent interview with the Guardian relating to the American President," she tweeted. "The question caught me off guard. As a Canadian, I regret answering this unexpected question without giving my response more context."
Twain went on to say that she is "passionately against discrimination" of any kind and that she does not share "any common moral beliefs" with Trump.
The singer said she was trying to explain that she thought Trump spoke to a portion of the American electorate like an "accessible person," a non-politician and that her answer was awkward, but should not be taken as an endorsement.
The walk-back elicited some pretty strong responses from folks on Twitter, with many still angry about the original sentiments and others coming to Twain's defense:
