'Snow White' and 'The Alto Knights' are among new movies in Milwaukee theaters this week

You might be seeing double at the movies this weekend, whether it's a new Snow White or a Robert De Niro two-fer.
Here's what's new in Milwaukee-area theaters starting Friday, as well as some of the new movies available on streaming and on demand this week.
'Snow White'
Short version:Rachel Zegler ("West Side Story," "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes") is the title princess-in-waiting and Gal Gadot is the wicked stepmother/queen in Disney's latest live-action remake from its classic animated catalogue. "(500) Days of Summer" filmmaker Marc Webb, who grew up in Madison and went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, directed.

'The Alto Knights'
Short version:Robert De Niro plays rival 1950s-'60s crime bosses Frank Costello and Vito Genovese — yes, both of them — in this gangster epic by "Bugsy" and "Rain Man" director Barry Levinson. Debra Messing, Michael Rispoli, Kathrine Narducci and Wallace Langham co-star.

'Magazine Dreams'
Short version:An aspiring bodybuilder (Jonathan Majors) obsessively throws himself into training to achieve his dream of being on a magazine cover — until his obsession takes him off the rails. Majors' performance was the talk of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and a likely awards-season contender — until the actors strike and Majors' legal troubles (he was charged with domestic violence and later convicted of assault) pulled the movie out of circulation.

'Locked'
Short version:In this thriller produced by horror-meister Sam Raimi, a drifter (Bill Skarsgård) breaks into an SUV, only to find out it's a high-tech trap set by a self-proclaimed vigilante (Anthony Hopkins) out for a dark form of justice.

'The Assessment'
Short version:In a near future when the government tries to curb reproduction because of limited resources, a couple hoping to have children (Elizabeth Olsen, Himesh Patel) are assigned an assessor (Alicia Vikander) to put them through a psychological nightmare of a test to determine whether they are up to it.

'On Becoming a Guinea Fowl'
Short version:After a young woman finds her uncle's body in the middle of the road, the funeral proceedings lead to family secrets being revealed. Zambian writer-director Rungano Nyoni took home Un Certain Regard honors at last year's Cannes Film Festival for this secrets-and-lies drama.

'Ash'
Short version:In this sci-fi horror-thriller, a woman (Eiza Gonzalez) on a space station wakes up to discover the rest of the crew has been murdered — and the ensuing investigation only makes things darker. Aaron Paul co-stars in this movie that attracted a lot of buzz at this year's South by Southwest Film Festival for filmmaker Flying Lotus.

Baseball movies at Times Cinema
To get you in the mood for the return of baseball, the Times Cinema has a lineup of some of the best baseball movies showing through April 3. This week's lineup: March 21 and 27, "Field of Dreams"at 6:30 p.m.; March 22-23, "The Sandlot"at 3:30 p.m. and "Bull Durham"at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Info: ntg-wi.com.
Friday Night Freak Show: 'Heavy Metal'

Marcus Theatres' 'Fan Faves': 'The Godfather'
For the windup to the summer movie season, Marcus Theatres is bringing back 10 popular classics on Sundays and Mondays through May 19. Tickets for the "Fan Faves" movies are $6, with a passport good for four movies in the series going for $18. This week's pick: Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 masterpiece "The Godfather,"showing at Marcus' Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, Ridge and South Shore cinemas at varying showtimes March 23-24. Milwaukee Film celebrates editor Thelma Schoonmaker
Thelma Schoonmaker ranks among Hollywood's best film editors; if you've ever seen a Martin Scorsese movie, you've seen her mastery at work. "Holland":Nicole Kidman stars as a woman whose seemingly perfect life in the quirky town of Holland, Michigan, is upset when, as she investigates her husband's possible infidelity, finds her quiet hometown isn't as quiet as she thought. Matthew Macfayden and Gael Garcia Bernal co-star in this dark comic thriller, filmed mostly in Tennessee (with a little southwest Michigan included). On Prime Video March 27.
"Con Mum":This true-crime documentary tells the story of a British chef, with a TV show and his own Michelin star, whose life is turned upside down when a woman claiming to be his long-lost mother — and a multimillionaire — shows up. On Netflix March 25.
"Revelations":A pastor and a detective set out to solve a missing-person case – or get retribution – in this Korean crime drama. On Netflix March 21.
