Timothée Chalamet Bob Dylan Pic ‘A Complete Unknown’ To Sneak Screen In Imax

  • Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" starring Timothee Chalamet will have exclusive IMAX early access screenings at select theaters on Dec. 18 before opening wide on Dec. 25.

Searchlight Pictures’ James Mangold-directed Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, starring Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet, will sneak screen in Imax at 30-plus theaters on Dec. 18. The movie opens wide on Dec. 25.

The exclusive ‘ A Complete Unknown: IMAX Early Access’  screenings will be held at select AMC, Regal, Cineplex and Cinemark locations in the following markets: Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis, Montreal (QC), Nashville, Phoenix, Toronto (ON), San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle and Washington DC. Ticket holders will take home a commemorative mini poster & lanyard and can stay after the film for a pre-recorded Q&A with the cast.

A Complete Unknown  follows an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota who arrives in NYC in 1961 with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. He forges intimate relationships with music icons of Greenwich Village on his meteoric rise, culminating in a groundbreaking and controversial performance that reverberates worldwide.

The pic also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.

The movie was written by 2x Oscar nominee Mangold and 2x Oscar nominee Jay Cocks, it is produced by Oscar nominee Fred Berger, p.g.a., Mangold, p.g.a., Alex Heineman, p.g.a., Bob Bookman, Peter Jaysen, Alan Gasmer, Jeff Rosen, and Chalamet.

At the Gotham Awards Monday night, Chalamet told the room that playing Dylan was “the greatest education a young artist could receive.”

“If you’re already a fan of Bob Dylan, this will make perfect sense to you. If you’re not familiar with his work, perhaps our film can serve as the humble gateway to one of the great poets and chroniclers of our times,” Chalamet said.

This week,  A Complete Unknown  received the Visionary Tribute at the Gotham Awards for Mangold and Chalamet. Chalamet will also be bestowed with the Palm Springs Film Festival’s 2025 Chairman Award.
