Top 10 concerts this week in Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, Englewood, Punta Gorda

We kicked off March last week with a concert picks installment that featured not one, not two, but three Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-inducted acts playing Sarasota's Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Now this week, we have another Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group visiting the same venue for the first time in nearly a decade, still featuring most of its original lineup.

Also set to visit Van Wezel this week is the son of an internationally famous singer, following in his father's footsteps and pursuing his own musical career, including a single co-written by pop superstar Ed Sheeran. Other notable concerts elsewhere in the area include a daylong festival celebrating the cigar box guitar and a Blues Music Award-nominated musician who's signed to esteemed blues label Alligator Records. Yarn

New York City-formed, now North Carolina-based Americana group Yarn head south for what they say are their first Florida dates in three years, including a Sarasota show at Fogartyville. Over albums spanning 2007's self-titled debut to last year's "Born Blessed Grateful & Alive," the band has developed a following known as the "Yarmy," and now host an annual Yarnival featuring live music, circus performers and more. Wayne Baker Brooks

After performing at Englewoods on Dearborn, Chicago bluesman Wayne Baker Brooks will play another one of the area's top blues spots, Cottonmouth in Bradenton, on Friday. Brooks hails from a musical family that includes his father, the late blues legend Lonnie Brooks, and his brother, Ronnie Baker Brooks. His own career accolades include induction into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame, performing at a send-off ceremony for Buddy Guy before he headed to D.C. to receive Kennedy Center Honors, and a cameo in "Blues Brothers 2000," which his father appeared in. 7 p.m. Friday; Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen, 1114 12th St. W., Bradenton; $20; 941-243-3735; facebook.com/cottonmouthsoul

Roy Book Binder

Acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter Roy Book Binder will visit Venice's Troll Music this week for both a show and workshop. Binder was friends with Dave Van Ronk and Rev. Gary Davis and blends their respective folk and blues sounds into his music. He also teaches guitar — including formerly at Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio, which was owned by Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna fame before he sold the property, where Binder also recorded a 2005 live album. Jonas Friddle and Anna Jacobson

Fogartyville's live music lineup this week also includes North Carolina-born, Chicago-based singer-songwriter and banjo player Jonas Friddle, joined by multi-instrumentalist Anna Jacobson. Friddle's accolades include winning the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in folk for the song "Belle de Louisville" in 2012, as well as the Great American Song Contest in the same field for the track "Man Was Made to Fly" in 2013. Matthew Curry Band

After recent area shows at Troll Music. Port Charlotte's The Twisted Fork and Cottonmouth, Bloomington, Illinois blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Matthew Curry will next play Punta Gorda Irish pub and music venue Celtic Ray Public House. Curry's fans include Peter Frampton, The Doobie Brothers and Steve Miller Band, all of whom he's opened for. Curry also appeared onscreen in the 2015 David Spade comedy "Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser," playing the late Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman and Jacksonville native Ronnie Van Zant. 8 p.m. Saturday; Celtic Ray Public House, 145 E. Sarasota Cigar Box Guitar Festival

After a cigar box guitar festival in Bradenton last month, another music festival celebrating the instrument will take place on the other side of Sarasota-Manatee at Big Top Live on Sunday. Steve Arvey, a Bradenton-based bluesman who's known in particular for his cigar box guitar playing, will perform along with Frank Bang, who toured with blues legend Buddy Guy as a guitarist for five years, and "Southern swamp rock" musician Jack Shealy from Ochopee in Collier County. John Salaway and the Regulators

After a recent show at Troll Music with Sara Stovall of Sarasota alt-Americana group Passerine, singer-songwriter John Salaway will perform Sunday at The Twisted Fork with his band the Regulators. Though Salaway now lives in Nashville, he grew up in Sarasota County, and regularly returns to the area to play shows. He has released albums such as 2021's "Salvation," which features guest musicians including Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jaffee and former Cage the Elephant member Lincoln Parish, who both appear on the opening track "One More Round." 6:30 p.m. Sunday; The Twisted Fork, 2208 El Jobean Road, Port Charlotte; 941-235-3675;  twistedfork.net

Matteo Bocelli

The son of famed Italian tenor and classical crossover artist Andrea Bocelli, Matteo Bocelli is pursuing a musical career of his own, which is what brings him to Sarasota at Van Wezel this week. Bocelli sang with his father on the 2018 duet "Fall on Me" that appeared in the Disney movie "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms," before striking out on his own with his 2021 debut single, aptly titled "Solo." Bocelli later released his first album with 2023's "Matteo," featuring songs sung in both English and Italian, and musical collaborators including pop star Ed Sheeran, who co-wrote the track "Chasing Stars." 7:30 p.m. Wednesday; Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Chris O'Leary Band

Blues singer-songwriter and harmonica player Chris O'Leary will play two area shows this week, at Leroy's Southern Kitchen in Punta Gorda and Englewoods on Dearborn. O'Leary previously played in the Barn Burners with The Band's late great drummer/singer Levon Helm before pursuing a solo career with his 2010 debut "Mr. Used to Be," which earned a Blues Music Awards nomination for Best New Artist Debut. Recently, O'Leary signed to Alligator Records, releasing the album "The Hard Line" on the renowned blues label last year. 8 p.m. Wednesday; Leroy's Southern Kitchen & Bar, 201 W. ZZ Top

Van Wezel's live music lineup this week also includes a return visit by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-inducted Texas trio ZZ Top, who previously played the venue on Halloween 2016 . The group rose to fame in the '70s with albums including "Tres Hombres" and "Fandango!" and songs such as "Tush" and "La Grange," then in the '80s with their diamond-selling album "Eliminator" and its single and music video "Legs." ZZ Top is also known for their beard, sunglasses and hat-clad appearance and featuring the same lineup for five decades — vocalist/guitarist Billy Gibbons, vocalist/bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard — until Hill's death in 2021, with longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis now playing bass in the band. 7:30 p.m. Thursday; Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N.
