Trucks of all sizes and remote-control planes among Fond du Lac's can't-miss events
FOND DU LAC COUNTY - Truck lovers will want to take in the 34th Truck-n-Show in Waupun this week, while remote-control aircraft enthusiasts can check out the annual Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest event in Fond du Lac.
Here are five can't-miss events happening in the community this week.
1. Trucks of all sorts featured in Waupun's Truck-n-Show
The 34th annual Waupun Truck-n-Show will be Aug. 11 and 12 in Waupun. All sizes of trucks are featured, from big rigs to pickups.
Admission is free for spectators.
Two parades are scheduled during the event. The night parade begins at about 9 p.m. Aug. 11. The streetlights along Main Street are turned off so spectators can view the truck lights. Murals and other artwork will be seen on the trucks during the Aug. 12 parade, set to begin at 3 p.m.
There will be live music both days and a dance is set for Aug. 12 in the Community Center. Event-goers also may purchase food and drinks and view exhibits. Camping is available on the grounds.

2. Remote-control planes to fly in to Fond du Lac
The annual Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest remote-control airshow is scheduled Aug. 17 to 20 at Wellnitz Field, N4841 Hickory Road, Fond du Lac.
The airshow will feature all types of flying model aircraft. Pilots from the United States and Canada will participate. There will be a special event at noon each day of the show.
In addition to remote-control aircraft, there will be food, drinks, specialty vendors and raffles.
Admission is $10 per vehicle for all four days, including busloads. Spectators should take lawn chairs.

3. Green Lake Fine Art Show marks its 50th year
The Green Lake Fine Art Show celebrates 50 years this year. There will be 64 artists from around the Midwest participating in the event Aug. 12 and 13. It will be on the lawn of Town Square Community Center.
The show will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 12 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13.
Artists will have their work on display and available for purchase including painting, sculpture, watercolor, ceramics, photography, wood, glass and fine jewelry. While browsing, attendees can listen to live music and purchase food and refreshments. Set to play over the weekend are Dan Braaksma, Jazz Orgy and the North Coast Jazz Project.
The juried event includes a Best of Show Award, plus two people's choice awards named after prominent Green Lake-area artists: the Pat Dobrinska Award for Still Life and Lester Schwartz Award for Abstract. A selection of Dobrinksa's and Schwartz's work is on display in the Town Square lobby gallery during August.

4. Youth theater camp wraps up with public show
A public production of "We Are Monsters" will wrap up Thelma's youth theater camp. The show will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts , 51 Sheboygan St.
During the last two weeks, students in fourth through eighth grade learned lines, songs and choreography for the show. They also built the sets.
This musical follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monsters. The humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock n' roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye.

5. Kids from Wisconsin brings show to Buttermilk Creek Park
The Kids from Wisconsin will perform Aug. 16 at Buttermilk Creek Park, 700 S. Park Ave.
This year's show pays homage to famous American award shows including the Tony, Oscar, and Grammy awards. The night begins at 6 p.m. with music by Lighthouse Big Band and Fond du Lac Children's Chorale.
Admission is free, although freewill offerings will be accepted.
Attendees should take a lawn chair or blankets. Food concessions, hosted by local nonprofits, will be available for purchase. This week will feature the Fond du Lac Women's Chorus' annual dessert sale. Items will be available from 5 to 9 p.m. including pies, brownies, cookie bars, ice cream and root beer floats. There are two new items available this year: melomakarona — honey-drenched orange spice cookies — and baklava.
