'Fourth Wing' TV Adaptation Is Officially Moving Forward at Prime Video
  • Amazon Prime Video has officially picked up the adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing book series to series.

It was just earlier this month when Rebecca Yarrosdelivered some exciting news about her Fourth Wing adaptation. The script looked great, and she was excited to see how that would develop into a TV series. For many, the biggest question was whether the adaptation would find a home.

With Michael B. Jordan and Amazon MGM Studios behind the adaptation, it was always expected to head to Prime Video. However, we were just waiting for confirmation, and that came during the Amazon Upfronts.

Prime Video Orders 'Fourth Wing' by Rebecca Yarros to Series

The Amazon streamer, which is the home of other major fantasy adaptations such as The Lord of the Rings : The Rings of Power and the unfairly canceled The Wheel of Time , shared the update that Fourth Wing is officially picked up to series. It's just the next stage in the adaptation process, and while plans can fall through at this point, they're less likely to.

Not only did Jordan announce that Amazon had picked up the series, he also introduced his fellow executive producer, Lisa Joy, who will direct the first episode. Meredith Averillwill be the showrunner on the series.

When speaking about Fourth Wing , Deadline reports that Averill shared that, "Rebecca's books have become one of the fastest-selling franchises of the 21st century, with a fandom so passionate, so devoted, they don't just read these books, they live in them, and it's because Fourth Wing is everything at once."

She continued with, "The emotional stakes are sky high, the battles are epic, power dynamics are thrilling, and underneath it is so much humor and heart and a romance that will consume you."

Adapting the Entire 'Empyrean' Book Series

The plan is to adapt the entire Empyrean series, which currently has three books published. While fans had hoped that the fourth book would be released in September 2026, Yarros has made it clear that it won't happen.

She wrote for 12 to 15 hours a day on the third book, Onyx Storm , and that led to her missing out on a lot of other parts of her life. To allow for that, it means reducing her writing time to just eight hours a day.

She has also been working on another novel, Peculiar Stars , which is set in another universe compared to the Empyrean series. Yarros has described her new book, which will release on November 17, 2026, as a "castaway romance." It follows Callista, a woman who ends up stranded on a deserted island with her cousin's fiance for more than 500 days.

The delay for the book could be a good thing, as it will allow Jordan and his team time to craft the TV show in full. Each season — should it get renewed — will follow each subsequent book, meaning the second season will follow Iron Flame.

There is no word on when the Fourth Wing TV series will be ready. The scripts are being written, but casting needs to happen.
