Invincible’s Aaron Paul on Why He Won’t Return as Powerplex in Season 4
- Aaron Paul decided not to return as the voice of Powerplex in Invincible Season 4 due to the emotionally intense nature of the role.
Aaron Paulrecently addressed his decision to step away from voicing Powerplexin InvincibleSeason 4. In a new interview, he spoke about the emotional challenges of the role and why he chose not to return, despite being a fan of the series.
Aaron Paul explains why he will not voice Powerplex in Invincible Season 4
During an interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast , Paul stated, "I did a couple of episodes, and then they asked me to come back for the next season, but I've got to tell you… that show, I'm such a fan of. I watch every episode. I love. But it was just way too gruelling on my psyche."
He added, "Powerplex is not just messing around. He's going through Turmoil… I put myself in that skin, and it was a skin I didn't feel comfortable in, to be honest."
Paul elaborated that the role was emotionally intense and impacted him negatively. "What it did to me, I didn't like. And so, I couldn't continue," he said. Despite stepping away, he praised the show's cast and crew, saying, "Everyone involved in that is amazing."
Powerplex, who debuted in Invincible Season 3, appears as Scott Duvall. The character, shown as slightly delusional and emotionally unstable, seeks revenge on Invincible, blaming him for the deaths of his sister and niece.
Driven by grief, Powerplex loses control and accidentally causes the deaths of his own wife and child. With Aaron Paul stepping away from the role, the show will likely recast the character, though no replacement has been announced.
Robert Kirkman created Invincible, adapting it from the Skybound/Image comic series. The story follows Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun), a teenager who discovers his powers while grappling with the legacy of his father, Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons). The series explores mature themes and features complex characters. Season 4 will debut in March 2026, with Lee Pace joining as Thragg. The team has already confirmed Season 5.
Matthew Rhys has also joined the Season 4 cast in an undisclosed role.
