John Oliver Books Gig at General Hospital

Last Week Tonight 's John Oliver is finally getting his wish to star on a daytime drama. During his show on Sunday night, the comic and talk show host revealed he will have a "significant" role on General Hospital which kicks starting this Thursday. Oliver will have a three-episode guest appearance, which wrap up July 6.

It was a few months ago in March, Oliver was begging like Keith Sweat(just Google any of his songs) to star on a soap after watching ESPN and GH recurring cast member Stephen A. Smith, who has had a spot throughout the years. Oliver put all the soaps on notice that he wanted to star on any show, then he quipped:

To all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I wll be on your set so fast, it will make your head spin.

Welp, ask and ye shall receive. Who will he play? The show and Oliver are mum on the situation, but he will not be playing himself, based on a photo that was released, something he was adamant about not doing when he made his pitch to be on a soap. Oliver remarked on the March show:

I want to do something juicy, like murder, or slapping, or being slapped, or being someone's long-lost something.

GH wasn't joking when they teased on Instagram that their DMs were available and open for the request. The show's executive producer Frank Valentini released a statement about the casting and said:

When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn't hesitate for a second. He was everything you'd hope he'd be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can't wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles.

Oliver also revealed he will be appearing on Days of Our Lives as well and has already taped a week's worth of episodes for the show after he put the call out to star on any soap, which both DAYS and GH took him up on. Oliver's DAYS episodes will air August 11th, 12th and 14th.
