Lanterns Just Set Another Major DC Studios Record After Episode 3
Lanterns has reached another viewership milestone after Episode 3 set a new series high. The latest figures show the DC Studios series continuing to grow after its strong August debut.
Episode 3 averaged 10 million viewers worldwide during its first three days. It also reached 7 million viewers in the U.S., according to HBO Max (via Variety ). The episode premiered on August 30. That makes Episode 3 the best-performing episode of Lanterns so far. The show's pilot has also surpassed 20 million viewers worldwide since its August 16 premiere.
The series already holds another important record. Its premiere remains the biggest launch for a DC Studios series on HBO Max . It also ranks among the platform's top five series premieres.
Lanterns continues to build momentum for James Gunn's DCU
Episode 3 also outperformed the series premiere during the same three-day measurement period. As reported by The Wrap , the August 16 premiere drew 9.3 million viewers globally, and 6.6 million in the U.S. Episode 3 therefore posted higher numbers in both measurements.
The audience growth comes as the series expands John Stewart's story. Episode 3 explores his origins and the experiences that shaped his path toward becoming a Green Lantern.
Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan. The cast also features Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Laura Linney, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter and Ulrich Thomsen.
Based on DC's Green Lantern comics, the series follows Stewart and Jordan as they investigate a murder. The case brings the two intergalactic cops into a mystery rooted in the American heartland.
Lanterns is an eight-episode season that moves between different time periods as its mystery unfolds. The story uses 2016 and 2026 timelines, showing different stages of Hal Jordan and John Stewart's relationship. The earlier timeline focuses on Hal training John, while the later period follows the consequences of events that happened years earlier.
Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King co-created the series. They also serve as executive producers alongside James Hawes, James Gunn, Peter Safran and Ron Schmidt.
