Megyn Kelly Says Hoda Kotb ‘Fell Down on the Job’ Interviewing Savannah Guthrie: ‘NBC Had an Agenda’
- Megyn Kelly criticized Hoda Kotb's interviewing skills during Savannah Guthrie's emotional interview about her missing mother on Today.
Megyn Kellydoesn't think Hoda Kotbshould have been the one interviewing Savannah Guthrieabout her missing mother for the Today anchor's first major sit-down since Nancy Guthrievanished.
During the Thursday, March 26, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show , the 55-year-old political commentator discussed Savannah's emotional interview, in which she revealed new details about the ongoing case surrounding Nancy, how she is coping and when she plans to return to work.
"With respect, I have to say I think Hoda Kotb fell down on the job, and I don't think she was the woman for the interview," Kelly told viewers of the multi-part sit-down , which aired on Today this week.

Kelly said she believes the network had Kotb, 61, interview her longtime friend, 54, as "a promotional vehicle ."
Kelly felt the network kept Kotb's mic turned up "for her empathetic sounds and her active listening, which was actually a major distraction and very odd in its choice because, normally, the network would turn down Hoda's mic during Savannah's very compelling answers , especially in an interview this big."
"NBC had an agenda here, which was to show you: One big happy family. Look how empathetic she is ," Kelly said. "It was an inappropriate choice journalistically because it served as only a distraction. This interview was not about Hoda . It was about Savannah."

Blasting Kotb for "wiping away tears that weren't there," Kelly said: "This was acting on Hoda Kotb's part , and it was a distraction and an unnecessary one."
Kelly's "real complaint," however, was that Kotb didn't appear to ask any "follow-ups."
"Therefore, it was not journalistically sound," said Kelly. "She did not ask very basic questions like, 'What do you mean [the door was] propped open?'"
"I objected to how it was handled," Kelly concluded. "I'm just being honest. I'm not trying to be petty. I'm trying to be honest about what I saw there and what should have happened in an interview this big."
