Savannah Guthrie Gets Candid About Why She Is Absent from the 'Today' Show
It's rare for viewers not to see Savannah Guthriereporting the news on the Today show during the primetime hours of the NBC series. So imagine folks' surprise when they tuned in early January and realized she was not sitting at the news desk alongside Craig Melvin , Al Roker ,and Sheinelle Jones.
Turns out she has a good reason for her absence—and she explained what was going on way before she actually took a hiatus.

Why is Savannah Guthrie not on the Today show?
Savannah isn't on the Today show because she is recovering from surgery to repair her vocal nodules and a polyp found on them. What's more, she alerted viewers that she was taking time off from work when she appeared on a December 2025 broadcast ahead of the holiday season.
"These last few weeks and months, some of you noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit," Savannah stated in a video posted on Instagram at the time. "Well, I found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and now I also have a polyp. It's not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks. So, this is my last day for a little while."
When fans discovered Savannah would be stepping away for health reasons, they immediately rallied around her to send their support.
"I hope all goes excellent! Speedy recovery ❤️🩹 @savannahguthrie 🙏🏿," one person wrote. "Sending you love and healing ❤️," another agreed. "Be well and get some rest, dear!" a different follower added.
Despite Savannah not being on the air for some time, she is alerting her followers about how she's faring. In an Instagram photo of her holding a white erase board, she assured viewers that she's holding up well after her medical procedure.
"All good!" she wrote on January 5. "Thanks for prayers and love!"
We hope Savannah feels better soon, and we can't wait to see her back on TV!
